The Wonders of Winter

KK Kozik

Sharon, CT

KK Kozik lives in Sharon, CT with her family, having moved there in 2006 after spending 20 years in Brooklyn, NY living, growing and working to build her career as an artist. Kozik works almost like a filmmaker. Her approach embodies active narration and visualization and derives from her own childhood recollections of adults and their behavior in polite society. Her work pivots around the issues of interpersonal relationships; its intense compositional formalism and visual wit forces the viewer to avoid safe clichés. Kozik is a ski instructor at Ski Butternut in Great Barrington, MA and her son is a ski racer. She is also the founder of Icehouse Project Space, an artist-run contemporary art project in Sharon.

Awards:   Connecticut Artist Fellowship, 2018; Commission, Fitchburg State University Library, 2016 (mural); Magnesium Electron, NA Prize, North American Print Biennial, 2009; Commission, Arts For Transit, Rockaway Park Beach 116th St Subway Station, 2008 (stained glass); New American Painting, Selected Artist, 2004 & 2007
