Beatrix Thorne Sagendorph (1900-1985) founded Yankee magazine together with her husband Robb Sagendorph in 1935. Her paintings and illustrations appeared in Yankee for decades; she provided almost all of the cover artwork for 30 years, most commonly black-and-white scratchboard art of New England scenery. Trix, as she was known, was a passionate skier. As a young woman she traveled and skied in Europe and in the western United States. Skiing is a consistent theme in Trix's winter paintings. If there's no skier in one of her winter paintings, look for some ski tracks. Trix skied in New Hampshire, where she lived for most of her adult life, until she was almost 80.
