The Wonders of Winter

I am fascinated by surface texture, the texture and direction of brushstrokes and the layering of transparent surfaces of color. In my own work I emphasize the energy and directions of the brushstrokes, the colors that lurk behind them and how a line can be evoked by subtle shifts in and the separation of tone, with no hard edges. In my figurative work the human form is often disturbed by pattern and texture in the way an “interference pattern” is used to camouflage an object that wants to be invisible. In sculpture, I try to capture subtle gestures - a shrug, a snub, a distance.
